Sibbjäns

Our story

In 2021, we, a group of friends, bought an old farm nestled in the heart of southern Gotland, along the Baltic coast, with the initial plan to establish a simple bed and breakfast.

Soon, we had much bigger plans...

It began as a dream …

... as it often does. For some of us, our children leaving the nest marked the end of an era, while existential questions about how to live our lives began to surface.

For others, the draw was simply escaping city life now and then and finding a place where we could kitesurf and simlply be in nature.

Pictured is Gotland's Erik Larsson, a true artisan of cultural heritage, who has brought his magic to Sibbjäns, often with free artistic rein. His beautiful touch is everywhere, and the team has treasured the opportunity to learn from one of the last of his kind.

A spontaneous bed and breakfast venture, born in Sanna and Pontus's summer home, rapidly grew into a small business with constant requests from friends and friends of friends to spend a few days and evenings in the kitchen, enjoying home-cooked meals. Surely, there was enough demand to expand?

Inspired, we began sketching out our own future in southern Gotland — a region of unique history and timeless charm. We spend our summers here, where raw, beautiful nature endures through all weather and weather shifts. But we especially love the September mornings, offering stunning Baltic Sea views with an infinite horizon.

We began to ask ourselves...

... Is there another way to live? Or could we even follow the example of the young couple in the heartwarming documentary "The Biggest Little Farm” who sold their Santa Monica apartment and headed for a patch of barren land, which, through sheer grit and determination, they transformed into a thriving farm with biodiversity at its core?

Because one thing was for sure...

... Sanna's Bed and Breakfast had outgrown its humble beginnings.

Then, one day, we, two families who are neighbors on Gotland, found ourselves the owners of an old horse farm just a few minutes' drive from our homes..

"Let's turn this land into a smallholding with animals, a kitchen garden, and a restaurant serving farm-fresh goodies," we thought.

What if...?

But then our vision began to expand. What if we also could inspire innovation and provide our guests and visitors with practical knowledge on how to build their own irrigation ponds, conserve water, produce their own compost, and grow organically in a beautiful and inspiring environment?

The project swelled as quickly as our enthusiasm accelerated. And yes, our budgets creaked and groaned under the weight of our ambitions.

Our little corner of the world

As we write this, we're building a hotel to welcome guests here – because above all, what we want is to share this place with others.
